The Assistant Maintenance Manager is responsible for assisting the hotel team with overseeing the maintenance and operation of all our facilities, buildings and property grounds (Universal properties own multiple buildings and maintenance team services those buildings as well as the Lord nelson Hotel and Suites). This position will be responsible for allocating the workload and supervising the jobs to ensure it is performed to the guest satisfaction and aligned with the standards and operating procedures of the Lord Nelson Hotel and Suites.
As the Assistant Maintenance Manager, you will act as a role model, sharing your experience and continually inspiring the team to go above and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect hotel regularly to ensure it meets safety standards.
- Be responsible for organizing the work equipment inventory register.
- Maintain exterior grounds for safety as well as cleanliness and appearance.
- Organize training and support to maintenance team on the standard operating procedures of maintenance department.
- Liaise with the Maintenance Manager and Housekeeping Manager to arrange for routine maintenance in hotel rooms, lobbies and facilities, in accordance with occupancy.
- To ensure that all Maintenance offices, workshops, storage areas are always highly organized and meticulously clean.
- Assist the Maintenance Manager with conducting routine inspections of hotel equipment and property areas.
- To maintain files of all information (manuals, booklets, literature, specifications and operating instructions) on all items of equipment throughout the Hotel.
- Assist with ensuring timely and accurate communication of all Maintenance projects with the Management Team, Hotel employees and our Guests to minimize any inconvenience or interruption of services.
- Manage manpower scheduling to ensure coverage during all hours as well as during storms, emergencies, renovations, etc.
- Organize repair projects in a manner that does not disturb guests.
- Work with Maintenance Manager to assist in planning and overseeing (future) renovations and construction.
- To always be fully conversant and compliant with emergency response standards, and to report on all incidents, accidents, near misses and safety hazards
- Act fast to resolve emergency issues (e.g. power outages).
- Find ways to reduce hotel operating costs and conserve energy.
- Manage relationships with contractors and service providers.
- Maintain purchases as per budget.
- Other duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Leadership experience needed
- 3 Years General maintenance experience and management
- Must have the ability to set priorities, be a strategic thinker and bring excellent time management and multi-tasking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

- In-depth knowledge of health and safety regulations and ability to spot and resolve risks.
- Familiarity with plumbing, electrical, sewer and HVAC systems; hotel industry experience is a plus.
