We are currently seeking a qualified Corporate Controller to join our Halifax-based head office.

The Controller will report to the leadership team on a regular basis. They will also provide the leadership team with support and financial insight, while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Responsibilities
The successful candidate will work closely with the leadership team to ensure that employees and company departments comply with finance and accounting procedures and will seize opportunities to improve organizational performance. The Controller will be responsible for all aspects of the accounting operations of the company, including setting and maintaining comprehensive financial and budgeting controls to mitigate risk. Examples of specific duties include (but are not limited to):
- Evaluate, maintain and continuously enhance the finance and accounting functions of the organization, including monitoring and reporting financial performance
- Ensure month/quarter/year-end processes are completed in a timely manner to ensure accurate financial reporting
- Ensure that all financial and non-financial reporting requirements are met on a timely, regular basis and in accordance with appropriate/relevant Accounting Standards.
- Direct supervision of all accounting functions, including the oversight of the monthly close process, monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements, financial reporting/analysis, payroll, collection/accuracy of accounts receivable, purchasing, and supervising accounts payable
- Review and analysis of all residential, commercial and corporate holding operating statements on a monthly basis, while ensuring timely and accurate preparation.
- Preparation of year-end financial statements and corporate tax returns for all corporate holdings
- Cashflow management, including regular review of all operating accounts and preparing transfers between accounts when necessary.
- Provide valuable financial insights and analysis to assist the leadership team in decision-making
- Manage the preparation of financial forecasts for the organization, including the consideration of historical results and future assumptions
- Monthly review of operating results and any operational concerns with property management team
- Provide leadership to the year end audit process to ensure timely and efficient completion
- Administration of CRA remittances as required, including preparation and submission of HST returns
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, budgets and actual expenditures
- Provide oversight, guidance and training to Finance Department employees, with a focus on enhancing capabilities and ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout the department
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures and business ethics
- Demonstrate a high degree of confidentiality and discretion regarding business operations and information gathered through the performance of assigned job responsibilities
- Other duties, as may be assigned by leadership team
Requirements
- Degree in Finance, Business, or related field of study from a recognized university or a combination of education, training and experience
- Possession of a CPA Designation is a requirement
- Minimum of 3-5 years post designation experience, in an increasingly progressive leadership role
- Relevant experience in the property management sector would be considered an asset
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections to provide insight
- Must have excellent leadership and people management skills
- Strong work ethic with personal drive for organizational success
- Must possess excellent verbal, analytical, organizational and written skills.
