Casual Maintenance Person

Overview of position

The Casual Maintenance Worker is responsible for completing assigned work orders from the Hotel Maintenance Manager and Supervisor. The ideal candidate should have experience with grouting, caulking, painting, and the physical strength to handle heavy labor. In this role, you will support the maintenance team with repairs, renovations, and other projects across our facilities, including Universal Properties' multiple buildings and the Lord Nelson Hotel and Suites.

This role is a contract position from November to April, with the possibility of extension or conversion to full-time employment.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Respond to and perform minor repairs.
• Assist the maintenance team with furniture arrangement and guest rooms.
• Communicate with employees and guests alike to determine the nature of their maintenance request.
• Utilize the Property Management System (PMS) to identify new work orders and update completed work orders.
• Ability to interpret readings from meters, gauges, and other measuring units used on equipment present on site.
• Must have comprehensive understanding of hotel emergency procedures.
• Other tasks as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

• Professional attitude with the ability to follow instruction.
• Strong knowledge of tools and techniques related to caulking, grouting, vinyl repairs,, flooring, painting and more.
• Ability to work independently, under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Physical mobility and stamina required.
• Detail oriented individual. 
• Valid Work Permit.
• Must speak, understand, and write fluently in English. Bilingualism is an asset.
• Experience working in a fast-paced hotel setting is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must have two years of experience in a general maintenance role.
• HVAC, carpentry, or mechanical experience an asset.
